Pipeline Disasters

On 09 September 2016, a portion of 43-year old pipeline in Alabama (a state in US) was damaged and estimated 336,000 gallons of refined gas spilled out and seeped into the ground. Fortunately, there were no deaths or injuries. However, the pipeline was forced to stop service for more than 2 weeks.

Not even two months after the leak, six workers were on the pipeline when a dirt-moving track hoe struck and created a massive fire and explosion caused one worker dead at the scene. The five other workers were hospitalized, another later died because of the injuries.

Whether you are in charge of process piping, or your are from piping design, layout, construction and operation, you are equally important and is the KEY to prevent such accidents. But you need to know any catastrophic failure may result in costly business interruptions and fatalities or undesirable environment consequences.
